The calendar that the western world currently uses is known as the “Gregorian Calendar”. The calendar was named after Pope Gregory X111, who decreed that this calendar be used as of October 15, 1582. It was a further adaptation of the Julian calendar, which was originally concocted by Julius Ceaser to baffle and disconnect the pagans from the natural cycles of the earth and nature. The word calendar in fact, comes from the Latin word, calendarium, which means, account book, and from the word calendae, meaning the first day of the month.
Most ancient cultures including the Mayans use a calendar that works in conjunction with lunar cycles and works in harmony with nature, the natural earth energies, solar system, the universe, and the human body. Many cultures recognise the significance of the full and new moons.
The "calendar" of the Maya civilisation is the best known and understood of all day keeping systems. The Maya inhabited a region of America encompassing today's Guatemala, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador, and southern Mexico. Their culture spanned from 5000 BCE to 900 AD. Their day keeping system comprised of distinct calendars and almanacs synchronised and interlocked in complex ways, the combinations of which give rise to extensive cycles. It is important to note that this system makes little use of the 365 day "solar calendar". It concentrates on the 260 day Tzolkin.
The Dreamspell is not the traditional calendar of the Maya people. It is part of a prophetic "time release" which is additional information coded into the calendar left by the Classic or Galactic Maya. This insight was discovered by Dr. Jose Arguelles. The purpose of the Dreamspell "calendar" is to make available these codes of natural time to bring forth harmony and peace.
This system of day keeping is also referred to as the 13 Moon calendar by its followers. It is a remedy for the westernized mind that has been unconsciously adhering to a paradigm where time is erroneously understood to equal money, setting us apart from the natural order.
The Dreamspell 13 Moon 28 day calendar is being followed by people in over 90 countries world wide. This movement known as Planet Art Network (PAN) promotes "Time is Art" rather than the westernized "Time is Money" concept. PAN operates as a network of autonomous collectives with a central focus of promoting the world- wide adoption of the 13 Moon Calendar so as to activate the potential of the human being in complete harmony with nature. This symbol is known as the Banner of Peace. It is the official flag in use around the world by members of the Planet Art Network and World Thirteen Moon Calendar Change Peace Movement. The Banner of Peace was designed by Russian artist and humanitarian, Nicholas Roerich (1874 - 1947) as a response to the destruction of the first world war and the Russian Revolution.
